Don’t Fear Fat

Jan 27, 2011 Posted Under: Personal Ramblings Read More

Many people think that to be healthy and to lose weight, one should avoid fat. This simply is not true. Our bodies need some fat. But it is important to learn the difference between good and bad fats.

Even with all the no-fat and reduced fat foods that line the shelves of the supermarket and are purchased every day, we still have an obesity trend in this country.

Check out this article which discusses some of the problems with low-fat diets and how to incorporate healthy fats into your diet:

P90X Recipe Idea: Vegan Burritos

Jan 26, 2011 Posted Under: P90X, Personal Ramblings Read More

Karma Chow is a great website with recipes and nutrition/health resources from Tony Horton’s personal chef, Melissa Costello.

While I am not a vegan, I know many people who are and will enjoy this recipe. Heck, I will enjoy this recipe. It sounds/looks delicious.

Tony Horton’s Famous Vegan Burritos

A lot of people wonder if Tony Horton is vegan. Here’s an excerpt which may help to answer that question:

Horton calls himself a “Flexitarian”, which means that he eats mostly a plant-based diet 90% of the time but will have the occasional fish, eggs or free-range, organic chicken if he is out and about and there are no other options. Otherwise, he keeps it clean; very little sugar (only in the form of agave, honey or brown rice syrup), no gluten, no dairy, very minimal processed foods and tons of WHOLE, FRESH food!

This recipe is also featured in Tony Horton’s new book:

Shakeology is NOT Expensive

Jan 4, 2011 Posted Under: Shakeology Read More

When you break it down per serving, Shakeology only costs $4.00 per shake ($3.00 if you sign up as a coach). $4.00 a day is nothing when you consider how much people spend on unhealthy beverages every day.

One shake a day could possibly change your health for the better… help lose weight, improve regularity, lower cholesterol, increase energy and supply your body with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to sustain itself. Plus Shakeology scores very low on the glycemic index.

Don’t believe me? Try it for 30 days risk free! If you don’t feel healthier, more energized, and simply amazing, you won’t pay. You can return Shakeology for any reason and get your money back (less s&h)—even if the bag is empty!

Click here to go to the Shakeology website and find out more.

Is your health worth $4.00 a day? I know mine is…

New Year’s Resolutions: Stick With Them!

Jan 3, 2011 Posted Under: Beachbody, P90X Read More

In the clip below, the statistic is given that about 25% of people drop their resolutions in the first week! YIKES!

If you are seriously committed to your resolution(s) and want to make significant change in your life, stick with it! It may be tough at first, but if you can stick with it for 30 days it will become a new habit.

One resolution I know that many people drop is exercise. They go and sign up at the gym at the beginning of January very motivated and ‘ready’ to make a change. But they get to the gym and have no idea what to do or how to put a solid workout together that will move them in the direction of their goals. (I know this because I have been there many times myself.) Plus, after having to drive to get there you then have to wait for equipment to be available.

This did not work for me and I assume does not work for many others. So we stop going. And that’s it… resolution gone.

But with Beachbody home programs like P90X and Insanity (discussed in the video below) you know exactly what workout to do on what days, what you should (or shouldn’t) be eating and how to put it all together. Plus, you don’t have to leave your house to do it! You can pop in the DVD and press play any time you want. No having to wait for an elliptical machine or treadmill or nautilus machine or free weights.

It’s so convenient that it’s almost impossible to make an excuse to not work out.

Check out this clip from the CBS Early Show “Solutions to New Year’s Resolutions”:

No matter what your resolution, stick with it!! You CAN make a positive change in your life.

No Excuses! You DO have time!

Jan 1, 2011 Posted Under: Beachbody Read More

Another common excuse for not exercising, “I don’t have time!”
You probably think you don’t even have time to read this post.
So, I will keep it brief.

Do you want to get in shape?

Do you want to feel better?

Do you want more energy?

Then you can find 10 minutes a day to exercise. 10 minutes! That’s all.

The Truth About Your Weight Gain

Dec 29, 2010 Posted Under: Personal Ramblings Read More

Here’s an interesting article from Yahoo Health:

The Truth About Your Weight Gain

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that American men eat 7 percent more calories than they did in 1971; American women eat a whopping 18 percent more—an additional 335 calories a day! But the harder question is this: Why do we eat so many more calories? Are we suddenly more gluttonous?”

Find out what the author has to say about fast food hamburgers, yogurt, peanut butter, and bacon. There are some facts that you should know.

Then, check out the book he refers to in his article:

No Excuses! You CAN Get in Shape

Dec 28, 2010 Posted Under: Beachbody, P90X Read More

People make so many different excuses for not exercising. I would like to briefly talk about the excuse: “I’m too overweight.” (I actually have heard this before.)

Unless there is an accompanying medical condition where your doctor has restricted exercise, you can start somewhere. Maybe it’s not jumping right into P90X like Dallas Carter who lost 190 pounds (see video below). Maybe it’s starting with Power 90 (which is like P90X lite) or Tony and the Folks like Victoria LaDuke did to lose 100 pounds. The point is, you can start somewhere.

Another excuse that goes hand in hand with this one is ‘Because I’m overweight I’m not comfortable going to the gym.’ These programs bust that excuse because you do all of these in the privacy of your own home. If the first few times you exercise and can’t complete the entire workout, it doesn’t matter. If you are out of breath or struggling to do all the reps, it doesn’t matter. There’s no one there watching what you can and can’t do. You can press pause as much as you need to and take breaks as needed. As long as you stick with it, you will eventually be able to do more and more.

Just start somewhere!

Check out this video to see how Dallas and Victoria started and achieved their success…

Make the decision to get in shape. Improve your health and well being. You CAN do this! I truly believe that you can. No matter what your fitness level is currently, decide on what program you want to use and set a start date. I guarantee that it will be one of the best decisions of your life.
