No Excuses! You DO have time!

Jan 1, 2011 Posted Under: Beachbody Read More

Another common excuse for not exercising, “I don’t have time!”
You probably think you don’t even have time to read this post.
So, I will keep it brief.

Do you want to get in shape?

Do you want to feel better?

Do you want more energy?

Then you can find 10 minutes a day to exercise. 10 minutes! That’s all.

P90X: Kenpo X – A Great Workout for Body and Mind

Oct 2, 2010 Posted Under: P90X Read More

My favorite P90X workout has to be Kenpo X. I have probably done this workout more than any of the others. It’s not as high impact or as physically intense as the Plyometrics workout (or others for that matter) but it’s a great cardio routine that gets my heart rate up, gets me sweating, and helps me burn off stress. I also find it helps me get rid of anger and other emotions.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not an angry person and do not have anger issues. It is very, VERY rare that I yell or even raise my voice. However, on some level there are little things that get to me and may even build up over time. It’s good to have the opportunity to get those out every now and then. That is what Kenpo X does for me at times.

Kenpo X is about an hour long workout that is filled with punches, kicks, and blocks. As the workout progresses it builds different combinations of up to four moves. It moves fast and throwing all those punches and kicks feels pretty good.

About 40 minutes into it, I start to fade a bit. It’s exhausting. And right around this time is when I need to dig deep and find that place in me where I can go on and finish. This is often where my stored emotions make their way to the surface. I begin to access ‘stuff’ that I have held onto for one reason or another. It may be situations I have been involved in, people I have had interactions with, or even sometimes things I have done/said that I may not be happy about. I allow these to come into my conscious awareness where I find the energy and strength to start punching and kicking the hell out them.

It’s incredibly therapeutic.

I know that’s not the immediate intention of the workout but for me it happens, and becomes part of my overall fitness/health routine.  As I discussed in a previous post (Allowing Myself to be In It) it’s not good to hang on to negative emotions as it could have a long term effect on one’s health. It feels really great to get this stuff out.

What about you? Do you have a workout that gets you going and helps you burn off stress and negative emotions?

P90X: Day 55

Jun 27, 2010 Posted Under: P90X, Shakeology Read More
Today was my last day of week 8 of the P90X classic version.  I can’t believe I only have 5 weeks left of round 1.  Yes, “round 1″. I am already planning on doing a second round. I see this program as being more than a simple 90 day quick fix to my health. I have seen tremendous improvement in my strength, flexibility, core stability and cardiovascular health, and I am very proud of myself; but I still have a ways to go to meet all my goals.

Week 8, day 7 was scheduled to be X Stretch. I decided to do Cardio X instead. I have been loving the cardio workouts in this program. Kenpo X is still my favorite; but I enjoy how Cardio X blends yoga, kenpo, plyometrics and core. It’s a great overall cardio workout in about 45 minutes.

Today was also my third day using Shakeology. Today’s recipe was chocolate Shakeology with peanut butter and a banana.  I discovered that yes, indeed, adding ice makes for a much more delicious shake.

I didn’t have any ice the first day I tried the Chocolate shake. So, I picked up a cheap ice tray at the grocery store. I wasn’t thrilled that this was my only option, as I had a vision of a more traditional ice tray. I was even thinking of one of those ice trays with the sliding cover so I could still stack things on top of it in the freezer. But alas, this was all the grocery store had:

I was slightly disappointed, but I knew ice would make all the difference with my shake the next day. So, the tray was only a couple of bucks and I figured I could live with it for a while.

Wouldn’t you know it, I love my new ice tray. Yup. Love it. The tiny “party cubes” (as they were described on the package) are perfect for throwing into the blender with my shake. I throw in a handful and they chop up quickly and easily, blending smoothly.  Plus, they are kind of cute; and who doesn’t like cute ice cubes?

So, I am ready for my final stretch of round 1. I predict a lot of push-ups and pull-ups in my future. And I’m curious to see the effect Shakeology has on supporting my health and fitness goals.  Now I’m off to make a high calorie, well balanced meal so that I am fueled up and ready to BRING IT tomorrow.
